why i sew

Why do I sew?  That is actually a pretty loaded question for me and it has evolved over the past few years.
At first, it was for financial reasons.  I had a skill (very minimal at first) and a newborn son.  I was not willing to go back to my corporate job and miss out on his milestones but we needed extra income, so I set up shop on Etsy.  It was great! At first I just did appliqued shirts and onesies and then I finally learned to read a pattern and it snowballed from there.
Now I sew because emotionally I need it.  I need to create and sewing is the best way I know to fulfill that need.  As a stay at home mom, (and I'm sure many of you understand this) we get caught up in everyday monotony and doing for others.  I love my life and wouldn't change it for the world but sewing is the thing I do for me.  It doesn't matter whether the end product is for my son or our home or the store, the creative process was mine.  My mother sewed for my brother and I when we were young, my grandmother was an excellent seamstress and owned a fabric shop in a little town in Tennessee, the old Singer in the photo above belonged to my great grandmother...I truly believe it is in my blood and I feel a responsibility to past generations to carry on this awesome craft and hopefully teach my children one day.
